Rhody Butcher is a whole-animal butchery connecting homes and restaurants in Rhode Island and beyond with quality local meat.

We are Rhode Island’s only whole animal butchery, founded out of a desire to strengthen our community’s access to quality local meat.

All of our meat is sourced within a short distance of Providence, from outstanding small-scale producers across New England.

We believe that the quality of meat is correlated with the quality of life which the animal lived, therefor high standards of animal husbandry are embodied in all of the producers from whom we source.

As a whole-animal butcher, we are buying directly from the farmers, meaning that your dollar goes back to the hard-working people that make our regional food system so dynamic and delicious.

All of our animals are slaughtered humanely at a small local abattoir, where slaughter is approached with care and a deep sense of responsibility.

We hope to bring you a little closer to your food and the people who help produce it, and to ensure that you are eating only the best of what our region has to offer.

Rhody Butcher is a family affair.

Jimmy is the head butcher and charcutier, Akua helps keep things running, and our two kids help keep us grounded, grateful, and a bit sleepless.

Jimmy has spent years working in the food system, focused on strengthening local access to quality food, with time spent at Meatworks, Fearless Fish Market, Barrington Butchery, and Freight Farms.

Akua is a childbirth educator & doula, through her practice Caring In Color.
